CARING FOR YOUR HYDROSEEDED LAWN

If you have any questions about caring for your lawn, please feel free to contact us.  However, we have prepared this information sheet for you which answer the most common questions.

Watering:  Please do not water your lawn for approximately 12 hours after application.  The hydro mulch we use has a tackifier in it which needs to dry before it ?sets?.  For best results, a lawn should be watered 3 times a daily for short periods (10-15 minutes per zone).  This way, the seed and soil remain constantly moist  with a minimum of runoff.  Try to allow your lawn to remain dry from 7PM until 4AM, especially during humid weather.  This will minimize the likelihood of fungus development.  You will get a feel for how much moisture your lawn needs depending on weather conditions and type of soil.  As your lawn matures, work your watering down to once daily maximum, and increase the time per zone as needed.

Fertilizing:  Fertilizer was applied with your hydroseed.  This will last about 3-4 weeks.  Your lawn likely will begin yellowing after this time.  We generally recommend mowing one time before fertilizing.  (Don?t be afraid to mow when needed, but collect the clippings for the first few times you mow).  You can use any quick release starter fertilizer?you don?t need to use the ?top of the line? brands.  A new lawn requires an application of fertilizer once per month for one full growing season.

Weed Control:  You likely will notice some weeds in your lawn as it grows.  Do not apply weed killer until the lawn is well-established (usually after three to four times you mow).  A liquid weed killer such as Weed-B-Gon is generally sufficient.  Remember, a good healthy stand of grass chokes out most broadleaf weeds, so proper watering and fertilizing does pay off.
